Matt Furie (b. 1979) is an artist, illustrator, and children's book author. He's best known for his character Pepe, a fun-loving stoner frog from his comic Boy's Club, who has become a ubiquitous internet meme. In 2012, McSweeney's published Furie's first children's book, The Night Riders, a wordless tale about the adventures of two best friends, a frog, and a rat. More recently, Fantagraphics has published two collections of his paintings: Mindviscosity (2020), a bestiary of monsters, weirdos, and anthropomorphs rendered in Furie's meticulous style of representational surrealism, and Trigore Labyrinth (2023). His work has also been shown in solo gallery exhibitions, including a 2024 show at New Image Art in West Hollywood.
