Attention spans seam to be getting shorter and shorter in our heavily mediated times in which the smart phone is playing an increasingly important role. To get attention on social media and elsewhere, it is not uncommon to rely on strong and shocking images. Do we need a nostalgic look at the past? This zine is a commentary on these phenomena by confronting drawings with found photos.

Born 1984 in Dresden, Paul Waak studied visual communication with a focus on illustration at Universitдt der Kьnste in Berlin (Berlin University of the Arts) and painting at Hunter College in New York City. His latest exhibitions took place in Weserhalle Berlin, Affenfaust gallery Hamburg, ungefдhr5 Cologne, Kunsthalle Exnergasse Vienna, Good Mother Gallery Oakland California and Yui Gallery New York. In addition to his drawings, paintings and sculptures Waak designs applicable objects, clothes, books, posters and record covers. Waak’s colorful figurative works explore the curious nature of human behavior contrasting the cheerful with the morbid. Paul Waak lives and works in Berlin.
